My 2hrs/day biz made $247,347 this year (feel free to copy the system)
I want to be transparent about what it actually takes to hit $50k months with a newborn.
This year, my tiny one-person writing business generated over $240,000. (and no, I’m not gonna show you my stripe screen shot for it, no need).
But here is the crazy part:
Most of that happened in the last 6 months.
And the bulk of it happened while I was pregnant or holding a newborn baby.
Yeah... that feels surreal to write.
But there are two things you need to know.
First, it wasn’t an accident.
I didn’t just “get lucky” with a viral post. I built a specific system designed to work without me constantly grinding.
Second, I want to be transparent so you see the full picture.
Success on social media looks like a straight line up. It isn’t.
I made mistakes. I broke things. I wasted time on “income streams” that turned out to be distractions.
So, here’s exactly what happened...
How I earned that $240k+, the mistakes that cost me money, and what you can learn if you want to build a 6-figure newsletter business in 2026.
The “Overnight Success” Myth
Let’s clear the air.
My Substack is 14 months old.
My experience is 14+ years in the making.
You are seeing the result of years of marketing education, practice, and collaborations with Fortune 500 companies that shaped my knowledge. You are seeing the result of contributions to Forbes and Entrepreneur that shaped my pen.
You cannot download my 14 years of experience in a day.
But you CAN copy the system I built.
And frankly, the system is what matters. Because experience without a system just leads to burnout (I’ve been there too).
Here is how I structure the business now, and the hard lessons I learned getting here.
Mistake #1: The “Variety” Trap (Why I stopped building new streams)
At the start of the year, I thought “diversification” was the goal. I tried to build 7 different income streams.
I thought it was an asset. It turned out to be a liability.
It works fine when you have infinite time. It breaks when you have a baby.
The $30k vs. 50kLesson:
In spring I hit my first 30k month.Instead of doubling down, I got bored. I wanted “variety.” I changed the system. I launched new, smaller things.
Guess what happened?
It didn’t work. My income plateaued, and I had to work twice as hard to maintain it.
So, when the baby came, I switched back to the boring stuff that worked.
I stripped it down to the core system.
And I hit $50k/month while holding a newborn.
Lesson: If you see something works, why change it? Boring makes money. Variety makes work.
Mistake #2: The Landing Page Obsession
I used to spend weeks building beautiful landing pages for my offers.
Copywriting, design, mobile optimization... I spent so much energy there.
Now? I don’t have a landing page for my highest offer.
I run my high-ticket Accelerator via Google Doc and a Stripe link.
I sell my consulting in the DMs.
Why it works:
If you build enough trust through your content, you don’t need a sales page to do the heavy lifting.
People don’t buy because the button is orange. They buy because they trust You.
Lesson:
Stop hiding behind your website.
If you have trust, a Google Doc is enough to close a $3,000 deal.
Mistake #3: Optimizing Paid Subs for Cash instead of Trust
(and no, this is not the bs about “offer value, the rest doesn’t matter”, cause it does.
When I started my Paid Substack, I treated it like a cash-generating offer.
I thought, “How can I make $5k/month just from subscriptions?”
That was the wrong lens.
I became a Bestseller in Month 3, which was great, but I missed the bigger picture.
The Shift:
I realized that Paid Subscribers shouldn’t be optimized for revenue. They should be optimized for Volume and Trust.
Why?
Because a Paid Subscriber is your hottest lead.
Imagine having 100 people who are committed to you for a year, reading your frameworks, and nodding at your philosophy.
These are the people who eventually buy the $3k Accelerator.
I would rather have 1,000 paid subs paying a lower price (building massive trust) than 100 paying a high price.
Lesson:
Your Paid Newsletter is not the business. It is the trust engine for the business.
Mistake #4: Not Running the “Accelerator” Enough
I only ran my high-ticket Creator’s Business Accelerator twice this year.
Huge mistake.
This is the program where I get the best results for clients (taking them from $5k to $30k months), and it’s the highest ROI for my time.
I limited it to 10 people per cohort. That part I did well.
Keeping it intimate means I can actually look at your business and fix it. But I should have run it quarterly.
The “Newborn-Proof” System (What Actually Remains)
After stripping away the noise, here is the simple system that generates the $50k months:
1. The Engine (Workshops):
I listen to the audience. I find one problem. I run a live 2-day workshop to solve it. I sell it.
(This generates cash flow and creates evergreen assets).
2. The Deep Dive (High-Ticket):
For the people who want to install my entire operating system, I offer the Accelerator.
(This generates high-margin revenue and deep impact).
3. The Trust Layer (Paid Subs):
I give my best tools and frameworks to my subscribers to build unshakeable trust.
(This fills the funnel for #1 and #2).
That’s it.
No complex funnels. No ads. No 12-hour days.
Your Next Step
If you are reading this and thinking, “I want to build this system, but I’m stuck at step 1...”
I am briefly re-opening the doors to 10K Launch Lab. This is where I help you launch your offer in the next 30 days and profit from it.
We design the offer that your audience actually wants to buy. We handpick WHO from your audience is ready to buy. We launch your perfectly positioned offer.
This could be you next:
(Even if you have less than 1,000 subscribers)
Writing changed my financial future.
But only because I stopped treating it like a “creator” and started treating it like a Business.
See you on the meaningful growth side.
xoxo,
Ana

Your system definitely shows your experience. Thank you for the break down. I am a newbie to this whole idea. Wish me luck. 👍
Building something this meaningful while pregnant and holding a newborn is genuinely inspiring. I love that you focus on the system rather than the screenshot. Can’t wait to read the full breakdown!
