Thanks for the post Ana. You mentioned you had followers elsewhere. Curious, how many did you have and what % of your initial subscribers you think were from there?
I’m still finding my way around Substack and enjoying the writing aspect. I’m really impressed at the people who hang out here. No nasty comments or ugly behavior so rampant on social media sites.
I guess what’s holding me back is juggling time and other projects. I want to understand how Notes and Chat are similar/different. I feel like there are two different versions of Notes - one specific to a post and the other more general. My plan for today is get familiar with how it works then start using them snd get to know some people.
I tend to overthink things so I may be doing that here. I do appreciate all the information you put out. It’s been very helpful in getting used to a new (to me) platform.
Consistency makes sense - but only if you have something of value to give to others. Turning up to say, Hey, I got 100 subscribers last week! doesn't serve anyone but the person saying it. Nor is it even interesting. Random quotes, rambling thinking aloud - it's just noise, I find. We mostly need less noise, more quiet insight that nourishes us.
I am also pretty new to Substack but really enjoying the community. I moved my mailing list here because I wanted a more intimate platform to really engage with my community. I'm still figuring out how I fit here. I offer a mashup of serial fiction, cat stories (and pictures), and musings about the writing journey. It's coming together, but a lot of growth advice is about branding and I'm not sure how i fit into that.
Question: Do we cross post? I am just starting here. I am thinking of starting a presence on X and Insta. Is it ok to use identical posts and notes on other platforms?
Hi, Ana, I love your spirit! I just got another mss saying: "New free subscriber to Write Like a Lover" (my newsletter). I think I'm wrong not replying. Psychologically, what's the best tone to strike?
Notes has just felt like a void to me. I got about 300 subscribers by bringing them over from other social channels- but those people aren’t on Substack and they read my posts as a newsletter in their email. It means I don’t actually know any of the folks in my Substack feed in real life and so that has made me feel a little shy. I’m super interested in trying to bring more collaboration into my newsletter in the next year.
Ana this post is a model of the strategies you suggested in it. Well done 👍
Lack of focus is holding me back currently. Working on better strategies to stay focused - 2025 will be amazing on Substack for my lil wellness pub.
I've had lack of focus too, you are not alone :-)
Thank you for being there with me!

Youve hit all the right points Ana - I’ve learned so much from you in my 2 weeks on substack - thank you!
25 subscribers, 5 post in 2 weeks and just really enjoying the conversations and learning more on how people use substack!
Love the 25 new subscribers!
Thanks Sean!
it’s been a fun two weeks :)

I hit 28k subscribers and burnt out 😂 I am just now recovering.
This is an incredible post with the strategy we can use to follow in your wake :-) Thanks!
I also love how you formatted post - hooking in the Notes, adding a poll, sprinkling in buttons. Templating this!

I have been looking for some good advice, this seems to be good and going well.
Thanks.
Can you see the posts in my Substack?
